Big, secluded, luxurious
What we say:
Located near the Cham Island ferry point on Cua Dai Beach, the Sunrise ticks all the boxes for a true seaside resort experience.
A stay here gets you access to a kids’ club (just within eyeshot of your infinity pool sun lounger), a couple of massive swimming pools and hot tubs, a dream gym with touch screen internet on the running machines, three good value restaurants, a spa, several bars, private beach with surfboards and kayaks, and they even offer coracle boat lessons.
Note that if the rooms are too steep for your budget, the hotel has an open-door policy that allows non-guests to enjoy it at any time so long as they have a drink or a meal.
The resort has 210 rooms but because it's spread over such a large area, it feels private and relaxed. Rooms come in varying sizes and styles, but all are smart and stylish with hardwood floors, comfy beds and all the mod-cons you'd expect. Standards have a window facing the rest of the room and leave guests the option of drawing the curtain, or not. Suites boast comfy couches in a separate lounge area, and villas come in a choice of ocean facing, island view, private infinity pool or garden facing.
The only downside to staying here is that the beach at times has visible sand bags (part of an effort to halt erosion) that some might find to be an eye sore. The old town is a good 10-minute drive away, but the great on-site restaurants and a string of cheap but fresh seafood vendors nearby help to make up for that.
Booking in advance is essential -- not only because the resort is often near full but also due to walk-in rates being significantly higher than what you'll find on 3rd party sites like Agoda.
