Green Hotel

A giant green government-owned monster

No pic at the moment -- Sorry!

What we say: 2 stars

Some guidebooks still direct readers to the Le Loi Hotel near the train station, but if they venture to the old address, they'll find it's been demolished and replaced by a humongous, green, four-star, government-owned monster. Not only is the exterior Gumby-green, but it's got all these big, horizontal logs stuck to the outside, making it look like something made from popsicle sticks at summer camp. The cavernous lobby is filled with weird and disjointed design touches, and the rooms -- Gumby-green carpets, and pale pastel-coloured, rattan furnishings everywhere -- add some rainbow unicorns and some posters of pop-stars, and it'd be a great place to do your homework and think about boys -- courtesy of the People's Democratic Republic of Vietnam. What were they thinking?
