Description
The Halo is another great choice on Sidestreet 66 and even edges out its neighbour, the Cahn Tien, which is no slouch in the quality department. The upper floors have excellent rooms that sleep up to four people, with air-con, satellite cable TV, big tubs in the nice tile bathrooms, and pretty balconies that feature porch swings! The decor and bedding are first-rate throughout, and most of the rooms have access to one or another of the exterior terraces. We've gotten consistently positive feedback from Travelfish readers for The Halo, one of whom remarks that they would stay here again for the bathrooms alone. All the doubles have an extra bed, so they're really triples. A homey place in a beautiful setting at a great price. Recommended.

We thought that the size of the rooms was amazing value for the price. We told them it was our honeymoon and they presented us with flowers on our arrival. I didn't try to take a bath so can't comment on issues other people have had. It was also quite warm at night so we weren't cold. The family were lovely. Yes they did push their tours quite a lot but we went on their day tour of Hue by motorbike and it was one of the best things we did in Vietnam. We got to go to little out-of-the-way places that I don't think many other people see. The owner of the hotel and his nephew were our drivers and it was great to chat to them as we went around. We highly recommend it! We didn't go with them for the DMZ tour but realised afterwards that it would have been the same price if we did and you all end up on the same tour bus anyway. BTW - the standard DMZ tour is a lot of driving to see not that much. The only part we thought worthwhile was the tunnels so you would be better to get your own transport (perhaps through the hotel) and bypass the rest.

Agree with other post, felt pushed into tours. Got excited about bathtub but don't - there is not enough hot water to fill it, not even halfway. Cold also, but we had sleeping bags. Nice family though.

Could be better. -

Good Points: Good Value for 10 dollars i guess..Good location, big room and bathroom, hot water, tv with movie and soccer channel.
Bad Points: very pushy trying to get you to take all the tours, taxi etc via the hotel. Too nosey - Always wanted to know what time we would be home and commented if we'd been out late the night before! Was cold cos we only had 1 thin blanket and a tiny sheet. Shower was hot for the first person but luke warm for the second person.

We have been staying here and the service was great. The room on the top floor was big, clean and very quiet. Definitely a great choice for 7 USD!

Cheap as chips and clean. The bathrooms with their showers were awesome.

Recommended for the bathroom alone! -

Stayed here for four nights. Got off the train from Hanoi and after a cyclo ride to Halo (they had sent pick-up to the station, but hadn't told me, so I wasn't looking for my name on a sign!) the ENORMOUS BATHROOM WITH TUB was exactly was I wanted! Hot water was plentiful throughout my stay. The "windowless" room was nice: TV (no cable), comfy bed, full length mirror, there was a window facing the corridor (but lockable and curtained, so no problem). It was US$7 and cheaper than a window room, so I was pleased. Hotel is located in an alley of Le Loi, so street noise is not a problem. Internet is 5000VND an hour (same as an internet cafe in the alleyway). Hotel lobby is modern-looking and good English is spoken. Also, I took a private motorbike DMZ tour run by the hotel, cost US$18 and I think it was worth it (can't compare with the bus as I didn't meet anyone who did this), I got to spend one hour at the Vinh Moc tunnels and as long as I wanted at other sights, you do miss out on Khe Sanh though (unless you want to spend 12hr on a motorbike and an exta $18)! Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Hue.

Have you stayed at Halo? What did you think?

Canh Tien
9/66 Le Loi St, Hue
This is a great little place tucked away at the end of 'budget alley' off Le Loi Street. It's not the cheapest of the lot, but the rooms offer a lot more for the money. The less-expensive rooms are fan only and a bit cramped, but that's partly because the beds are nice and big, and they still... more

Hoang Huong Guest House
46/2 Le Loi St, Hue
This friendly place is run by a mother and daughter (the hotel is named after Mom) who speak English well and do an exceptional job keeping the joint humming. Even though it's a budget guesthouse, they go all out to attend to the needs of those staying here, and they're incredibly scrupulous about... more

Mimosa Guest House
12/66 Le Loi St, Hue
This is the place to head if all you care about is saving money. The cheapest rooms are fan singles which guests jokingly refer to as 'prison cells.' Not the worst prison imaginable. Like a nice Swedish prison, or maybe a college dorm room. The doubles here have extra beds, making them triples, but... more

Bao Minh Hotel
8/66 Le Loi St, Hue
The rooms here are a bit cramped, in part because they all have tables and fridges packed into the room whether there's room for them or not. On the plus side, the decor is quite pleasant, the bathrooms have tubs, and all the rooms feature optional air-con at a very reasonable price. The more... more

Van Xuan
10 Pham Ngu Lao, Hue
We were greeted by a very unclean smell in the lobby of this place, and a spry old Vietnamese guy who didn't speak any English. We thought the rooms were not all that great -- a bit cramped, a bit shabby. Still, the place remains popular, perhaps because of the long exterior balconies, lined with... more

Phuoc An Hotel (DMZ Guest House)
60 Le Loi - 1A Pham Ngu Lao St, Hue
Despite the fact that the DMZ Cafe is sort of a hip place for backpackers to hangout, the associated hotel isn't such an appealing place to stay. We found the rooms clean but antiseptic, and the staff obnoxiously over-eager. Most of the rooms have decent baths with tubs, fridges, TV -- but no... more

Thanh Thuy's Guest House
6/66 Le Loi, Hue
This shining little diamond of a place offers, hands down, the best value for money for budget accommodation is Hue -- and probably in Vietnam. It has just four small rooms, but they're all beautiful and unbelievably cheap. The two street-facing rooms have excellent balconies, and are wonderfully... more
