Description
Right across the alley from Cafe on Thu Wheels, the Phong Nha draws in a steady custom and is very popular with Japanese tourists. We can't say we were thrilled by the rooms we saw here -- they seemed a bit dank and airless. Also, badly lit. The over-eager staff were a bit of a turn-off, too -- we hear it's hard to leave this place without booking a motorbike tour at Cafe on Thu Wheels. Luckily, for most people, this works out well since they want to take the tour anyway, but on the whole, head to the Binh Duong down the alley.

The hotel itself isn't anything special. We paid the extra $2 to get a balcony, simply for some more space! The staff are friendly enough, although didn't seem too impressed with us after we booked tours and bus tickets elsewhere. Our bed was really comfy and the rooms are really clean. Cafe on Thu Wheels is about two steps away and is amazing. I'd definitely recommend the motorcycle tour, its only 110 Dong and it's well worth it. You get taken off the beaten track, through the countryside and arrive at all the touristy places before the large groups on A/C buses. It's amazing!

We checked out the Binh Duong I, which is down towards the end of the alley, and were pretty pleased by what we found. They have a wide variety of rooms, from very cheap budget rooms on up to the low mid-range. We could find no fault with the rooms, which all seemed to be worth the price, depending... more
Hung Vuong Inn

This homey place has a good, English speaking staff and a nice restaurant on the first floor that attracts a steady crowd and serves some tasty western dishes. The rooms are fine -- spacious and clean, with cable TVS, air-con and decent bathrooms. Not dirt cheap, but a good value for the price. It... more
