Binh Duong I + III
The place to stay

What we say:
We checked out the Binh Duong I, which is down towards the end of the alley, and were pretty pleased by what we found. They have a wide variety of rooms, from very cheap budget rooms on up to the low mid-range. We could find no fault with the rooms, which all seemed to be worth the price, depending on what you're looking for -- a small, windowless room with nothing but a bed is cheap, while a well-furnished room with a balcony, high ceilings, and two big beds is more expensive. And here's the piece de resistance -- many of the better rooms come not only with internet in the room, but also desktop computers to access it with. We were impressed. You also get free internet in the lobby if you get a room without a private PC. The cable TVs get a lot of the English language channels you may be looking for. Seems to be the place to stay.

Really lovely room; really pushy hosts
Binh Duong I without a doubt had the cleanest room (specifically the cleanest bathroom, WITH hot water) I've stayed in thus far in Southeast Asia; it had real furniture and cable TV, all for the bargain price of $8 for a single fan room. There were two drawbacks: 1) The computers are straight outta 1994, which is kind of a big deal when it's raining and there's not much to do in Hue; 2) The staff were super pushy about buying bus tickets and tours from them. However, the value of the room and the great location (away from the main backpacker's area, but close enough to walk there for bars and restaurants) made up for this.

Internet in room sealed the deal
Hue was rainy and chilly when we visited but our comfotable stay at the clean Binh Duong 1 (with internet in our room! Brilliant!) and the proximity to the little french bakery down the road, made us feel cosy and warm. The staff at Binh Duong 1 were very friendly and cheery, and were able to help us with laundry and a cheap day out to visit the historic sights. The location is good for getting places, but out of the way of the noisy strip of restaurants and bars. Right up our street.

Great Rooms
Just finishing up a four night stay in Binh Duong 3 and couldn't be happier. For $15 US a night we have a lovely and large 2nd room floor with balcony, own computer and free wifi, and proper bathrooms (ie a seperate shower, not just a hose over the toilet). Room is also cleaned every day. Have to agree with the other reviews though about the staff being naggy about their tours. But just politely decline when they start their speech and you will survive, they got the idea when we were picked up for tours through other companies! Also location is great, very close to citadel and all the yummiest restuarants and only a 15 minute walk from the DMZ bar

Touting Value
TF said 5, guy above me in 4/2008 (a year and a half ago) said $7-8. My room, single King size bed/balcony/computer was $16. Is it possible even with the recession that prices are able to double or triple within the span of a year? I got picked up (''invited'') to the hotel off the sleeper train from Hanoi, took the bait and the guy took me here, seemed reasonable and he offered a 20% discount. 5th Floor Room drew exclaims from both me and the GF upon arrival, big balcony, spacious, king size bed, desktop computer, television, dresser with mirror, desk, wardrobe, minifridge, hot water, bathtub. 16$USD with the ''discount'' though be careful, we took a City Tour with the hotel for 10$ USD and two other people we spoke to on the tour were there for 6$. So much for the discount. That's what I get for going with a tout though. No sign of bedbugs

A good choice
Nothing spectacular about the rooms here and the staff were somewhat full-on on arrival about booking tours and forward travel with them. However the location is good and it is genuine value for money. Computer in the room was a genuinely good touch. Would recommend.

Binh Duong III is a winner!
The best budget hotel in whole Vietnam. Spacious rooms, all with AC, hot water, satellite TV and computer! The location is excellent and the staff is just awesome. We didn't book any hotel and when we arrived to Hue, they politely invited us to check out their hotel. And it was worth it. This hotel is not to be missed on your trip to Hue!

Basic Room But Very Good for a Basic Room
A lot of great things to say about this place. Very basic room, but maybe the best basic room I have ever seen in travelling Asia. Lots of hot water, a very few satellite channels on the TV and some decent decor. Staff, both day and night, were just super; friendly, engaging, offers of help, etc. Just great. The hotel advertises this place as 'Quiet'. What they really mean is that it is in an alley and not on a street. (This small alley is maybe backpacker HQ for Hue as many guest houses and the open tour buses stop out front.) In the morning the maid showed up EXACTLY at 6am: She starts throwing buckets, brooms and mops into the hallway; slams any open windows in the hallway, bangs the mop into the walls at every chance and then, the icing on the cake: she sets a radio up in the hallway to listen to music as she works. Besides the maid, woke up to dozens of serious, large bed-bug bites that looked as if I had chicken pox. Four weeks later the marks were still quite visible. Price noted in TF is $5. Even the lobby notes this price, but the staff were able to get away with charging others on my floor and on other floors (with the same room) $7 and $8 a night. At $5, and without the bed bugs and maid, it is a good place; for $7 or $8 it ceases to be a jewel.
