Nam Hai 2 Hotel

Wood fiesta

What we say

The Nam Nai 2 has reasonable rooms -- very clean with half wood panelling and as much heavy wood furniture as they can cram in -- gotta love those pearl-inlay renderings of flying cranes and placid ponds. Hot water bathrooms are spotless and rooms also have fridge and TV, though the cable is limited. Beds are firm but a bit lumpy. Other highlights include fake flowers and massive wooden paintings adorning the walls. Streetside rooms are noisy, so go for a back room. The cheapest rooms are well-overpriced but the others are of passable value. All rooms come with air-con and fan. Good English is spoken here and free internet is available in the lobby.

Unfriendly Staffs - 22nd May, 2009
I agree with what luvmedic commented here. The staffs of this hotel were not friendly at all during my stay here. It made me gotta check out and change to another hotel. I really couldn't stand for their attitude!

Bargaining required - 16th May, 2009
I've stayed here 2 nights on the 5-6 May of 2009. I've never planned on where to stay, so I walked around and the staff there like many other touts promised spacious, clean and value for money rooms. It was low season and with limited budget and some insisting, I've got a room on the 4th floor with a hefty discount from the quoted price. The hotel was empty on that time. The room was indeed spacious, clean and it came with a window. I felt the room was good value and reserve it on the 13th May (for after my Halong Bay and Sapa trip). How travelfish described it here are accurate word for word. Throughout my stay however, I've seen nothing but sour faces from the staff and I felt unwelcome. Upon returning from Sapa (I took the train SP4 arriving in Hanoi at 6 am), I was greeted with a suck on a lemon sour face and was told that I will be charged an additional 50%. I said no way I am going to pay that amount, so thank you very much. I went to a neighbouring competitor (Queen Star Hotel, on the same street) and with the same price, I got a room which are equally spacious and clean, but no windows. The staffs there however are so much better than the ones at Nam Hai 2 and I get smiley faces throughout my stay. Conclusion is, with some hard bargaining, you can get value for money rooms. The attitude of the staffs however spoiled it for me. I would prefer it if I had stayed elsewhere. Cheers! (ps - try the hot plate beef for dinner in the 2 o'clock direction from the front door of this hotel)
