The six-storey Sunshine Hotel is a spacious enough affair with tiled floors throughout and ornate Chinese-looking furniture. The front rooms have small balconies, making the rooms a bit noisier, though bear in mind this is not the noisiest street in Hanoi, so it could be a lot worse. The rooms feature brightly-coloured bedding, vanities, desks, tile bathrooms, and they've recently introduced desktop computers, standard, in all the rooms, which is probably why the prices have risen. All rates include breakfast and free internet.

* Travelfish researchers visit and review properties on an anonymous basis. By that we mean they show up, in person, and pretend to be either be a potential guest, or somebody looking for a room for a friend or relative. Where possible the researcher will inspect at least a couple of rooms. The rates you see above are what either the desk staff told us they were, or what were in the brochure when they just told us to quit bugging them and look in the brochure. Not so bad - 27th June, 2009
We stayed at Sunshine 1. Despite all the reviews of rude staff, we had some quite helpful and friendly staff during our stay. The rooms were spacious ($22 twin) with a speedy PC and a bowl of fruit! We reserved our room in advance (paid a 300,000 dong deposit), before a trip to Sapa and Halong Bay. They let us have much needed showers the day we reserved, even though we were only staying there three days later. Breakfast was ok: bread, bacon and coffee, and we were greeted with smiles every time. Maybe they have improved!

Try elsewhere - 24th January, 2007
Can't comment on the Sunshine 1 - but stayed in the Sunshine 2.Staff weren't the friendliest, and their travel desk charged us $20 extra to get Thai visas for us - I didn't have a passport photo on me,and was charged an extra $1 for them to scan my passport. The $20 room was clean but extremely small,no outside windows, and we had problems with the hot water.
