As with most guesthouses and hotels in Hanoi the ground floor of the Van Minh plays host to the resident travel agency. The front rooms have balconies, along with the accompanying street racket, while the back rooms have no balcony (and in some cases no windows) but they are a good deal quieter. The rooms are decked out with standard wooden furniture and the helpful staff will even supply you with a strip of foam to fill the gap if you want to push two of the beds together. Bathrooms are standard, all with tubs, and are clean. At least some of the standard doubles have no window, or a very small one, so ask to see several rooms before you settle in.

* Travelfish researchers visit and review properties on an anonymous basis. By that we mean they show up, in person, and pretend to be either be a potential guest, or somebody looking for a room for a friend or relative. Where possible the researcher will inspect at least a couple of rooms. The rates you see above are what either the desk staff told us they were, or what were in the brochure when they just told us to quit bugging them and look in the brochure. For mid-range hotels and up, always shop around online for a competitive rate. Click here to find out more about what makes Travelfish different with regards our accommodation reviews.

Stayed here for three nights. I had a single room, although it had two single beds in it which was fine. Van Minh has everything you could want. Its in a great location just north of the lake. The rooms are beautiful, not huge but they're cosy. Lots of hot water, and even a bath! Cable tv, and free internet in the lobby. I highly recommend it.
