Salute Hotel

Overpriced but friendly

The Salute Hotel has undergone a remodel since we last visited -- good thing too, since they used to be a pastel-hued 'salute' to bad taste. Now they feature clean lines and muted tones with good attention to detail. This does not, however, justify the leap in the rates -- in some cases the rooms are now double the old price. It looks like they aren't getting that many takers, either -- on our midday visit we found the bell-hop, smartly suited up in a double-breasted crimson and gold uniform, fast asleep across three chairs in the restaurant. The cheaper rooms are well-sized and comfortable, situated at the relatively quiet rear of the building, and are fairly competitive for the market. The business centre on the second storey is unusual for a hotel of this size. The suite rooms are at the front and have two beds along with all the mod-cons. These large rooms would be ideal for a family, but at the current price, you could almost afford a luxury room elsewhere.

By that we mean they show up, in person, and pretend to be either be a potential guest, or somebody looking for a room for a friend or relative. Where possible the researcher will inspect at least a couple of rooms. Pretty good place - 1st September, 2009
My GF and I stayed here for a night after wasting our money at the Zephyr. We stayed in a deluxe room with a private balcony for $40 a night including breakfast and free wifi and thought it was a very good value. Great location, surrounded by shoe stores 2 blocks from the lake... Recomended
