What we say:

The Zephyr used to be the only boutique hotel option in Hoan Kiem, but no more. It is now clearly outshone by the revamped Golden Lotus, the new Maison D'Hanoi, and places like Cozy Hotel which offer much better value, often at cheaper rates. It does boast a unique location, just south of Hoan Kiem lake where there aren't a lot of other options, but from the upper rooms, you'll get better city than lake views. And Bobby Chin's restaurant across the street has closed. Attention to detail is lacking. On our most recent visit, we noticed the sloppy paint job, the same old tatty carpets we've complained about for years, and part of a hallway being used for storage. Staff are still nice, but we might have detected a bit of that, Oh, well, the ship is sinking, time to jump off, feeling. The ground floor patisserie remains a pleasant spot for a tasty treat and good value, so come here for that, but book a room elsewhere.

Overpriced

My gf and I wanted to stay in a nice hotel because we were both feeling under the weather. Zephyr is plain and simply overpriced. The rooms are very basic, yet large and clean with comfy beds. We expected a much more modern room. Some of the rooms only have windows that open into the stairwell. Do yourself a favor and stay at the golden lotus. They were booked when we arrived so call ahead.
