Like so many hotels in Hanoi, this place has undergone a top-to-bottom overhaul in the last year. Rooms are now spacious, with good bedding, recessed lighting, large wood-carved armoires and vanities. Alas, the TVs are disappointingly small and there are those typical Vietnamese tile floors that don't really match the rest of the of the room aesthetically. But they are clean and in good shape. On the plus side, they've added two floors and now boast the tallest hotel in the Old Quarter, providing views of Hoan Kiem lake. Also, all rooms come with computers and 24-hour internet access, standard. It's stumbling distance from the bia hoi corner, and the staff here have a long reputation of being, well, very reputable. It used to get good feedback from users even before the reno. If you're priced out of the new Classic 1, try their sister hotel, the Classic 2, around the corner on 49 Luong Ngoc Quyen.
