Description
We've never been great fans of the Little Hanoi Hostel, but the addition of a cheap six-bed dorm is starting to sway us. Set on noisy Hang Ga Street, Little Hanoi Hostel has barely adequate rooms both above the ground floor travel agency and at the rear of the guesthouse. If you choose to stay here, we'd strongly recommend taking a back room due to the traffic noise. Some rooms have rather poor security. On a positive note, we've got some good feedback on the staff here, and they offer free pick-up from bus or train station.

Friendliest staff in Vietnam -
By jhob ( total comments: 3  More information please ) Stayed here 5/2006
We arrived in Hanoi off a hellish day travelling down from China when both myself and my girlfriend were suffering from food poisoning. The staff at little Hanoi hotel could not have done more to help us out when we were in a pretty bad way. That night they took me out on a moped for free to find some remedies for my girlfriend and over the next couple of days they really looked after us. They also managed to get us on a trip to Cuc Phong national park when it looked like none were running at the time. They are the most helpful and genuinely friendly people that we have met in Vietnam - really fantastic!

True, the rooms are nothing to write home about but they are adequate and comfortable. We had a room in the middle of the hotel and didn't find it too noisy at all.

If you like your service with a huge smile you cannot do any better than stay at little Hanoi.

Hanoi Backpackers Hostel
48 Ngo Huyen, Hoan Kiem District
This excellent budget option is the only real hostel in Hanoi if not Vietnam, and for the single traveller who doesn't mind a dorm bed, this is outstanding value. Under Australian management, the Hanoi Backpackers Hostel has absolutely spotless dorms (both mixed and women-only) along with a... more

Thu Giang Guest House
5A Tam Thuong St, Hoan Kiem District
You'll find some of the cheapest rooms in Hanoi at the Thu Giang Guesthouse, and as long as you're prepared to get what you pay for, it's just what a lot of travellers we know are looking for. Rooms are all small and need a coat of paint, but are clean. The atmosphere at this long-running family... more

Real Darling Cafe Guesthouse
33 Hang Quat St, Hoan Kiem District
The Real Darling Cafe is a long-running, backpacker-orientated place with cheap and grotty dorms and better-conditioned single, double and triple rooms. It's popular for budget travellers, and if you don't intend to spend a lot of time in your room, it makes sense: the prices are among the cheapest... more

Manh Dung Guesthouse
2 Tam Thuong St, Hoan Kiem District
In a city where so many hotel staff are bored and burnt out, this place is a breath of fresh air. The guesthouse sits near the northern end of Tam Thuong alley, which offers a modicum of piece and quiet, and the sparkling lobby features new internet terminals and a lift, as well as low-pressure... more

Phu Hoa
16 Luong Van Can
The Phu Hoa is easy to miss -- a small sign marks its location down a narrow corridor between two other buildings to the entrance, somewhere in the centre of the city block. Yup, don't expect any great views, but we found a very friendly reception, and basic but cheap rooms with a fan-only option... more

Prince 57 Hotel
57 Hang Be Street
We received a very friendly, casual reception on our visit here. When we asked to see a room they tossed us the key and let us go up on our own, and when we forgot to shut the door after leaving, they made us go back and close it! But in a nice way. Really just the kind of folks you're looking for... more
