We received a very friendly, casual reception on our visit here. When we asked to see a room they tossed us the key and let us go up on our own, and when we forgot to shut the door after leaving, they made us go back and close it! But in a nice way. Really just the kind of folks you're looking for in what is one of Hanoi's true budget operations. Who needs to be pampered when you're paying prices this cheap? And the room we saw was very nice for the price -- small, but with a big window, TV, comfy bed, and decent bath. If you're bringing toddlers into the hotel, though, check out the hazardous landing between the first and second floors. Otherwise, a top pick on the no-frills, budget score, and with 45 rooms on site, they're likely to have a vacancy even when the rest of the Old Quarter is filling up. Their sister hotel, the Prince 79 on Hang Bac, offers slightly pricier rooms nowadays, but is also a good choice.
