Rose Hotel

Not bad value for the area

The area around the cathedral is a great place to stay -- quiet, pretty, and a lot of interesting restaurants and cafes to check out right near by. So we tried to find some good-value budget accommodation -- unfortunately it seems to be something of a 'flashpacker only' neighbourhood. This place is nothing special, but it does offer some decent double rooms at half the price (and roughly half the quality) of what you'll find elsewhere. The price is the same for rooms with and without windows, so ask to see several.

a good option - 6th July, 2009
I stayed on and off for about 5 weeks at the Rose and thought it was a pretty good place to stay. I went off for trips to other places and then came back and they always kept my favourite room, at the back. The staff were friendly and helpful and never tried to sell me anything. I paid $11 for 2 beds, fridge, aircon, cable tv and daily cleaning. It's a good spot, in a little laneway close to the cathedral; near most sites and good restaurants but away from the really noisy backpacker area.

Love it! - 17th May, 2008
This is more of an alternative to the infamous backpackers hostel next door, but in my opinion is the better option. The double rooms are only 25p more and you get cable tv, fridge, comfy bed, balcony and can still head next door for the socialising. Staff are friendly and it's really clean. Maid comes everyday, changes the sheets, towels everything! The A/C is probably the best, after walking around all day in the humid heat and then coming back to an Air Conditioned room just feels sooo good :)
