Great value for great rooms
What we say: 
This newish place, with eight floors accessible by lift, opened in August 2008. It boasts a prime location for the Old Quarter, on a relatively quiet lane right in the centre. Staff are really great, and while the first floor lobby is nothing special, the rooms are: there's a quality of atmosphere and design that you'd pay a good bit more for elsewhere, with hardwood floors, wide, fluffy beds, and everything still looks new and clean. It's right across the street from a seedy rip-off joint that keeps changing names, and if you wind up being taken there, via taxi scam or whatnot, just duck in here very quickly and they'll rescue you. It's the little things that really make this place stand out for us: rooms include breakfast, prices include taxes, and all room rates include free use of a laptop provided by the hotel. What's more, all the bathrooms come with hair dryers. It might not seem like much, but we don't know of any other place in Hanoi in this price range that is putting in that kind of effort. Recommended.

Great place to stay
Hanoi Gecko 2, now Sans Souci II, was a wonderful place to stay during our short time in Hanoi. It is on a side street, away from the busy and noisy street nearby. We especially enjoyed being off the main street but within easy walking distance of the sites in the Old Quarter. The staff were all extremely helpful and friendly. We also arranged a day trip through the hotel that worked out very well.

More than comfortable
Located in the heart of the old quarter. Nothing to complain about at this very comfortable hotel. Great, clean, safe, secure rooms with great bathrooms. Definately a few steps ahead of your regular hostel/guesthouse (though this is reflected in the price). The staff were very friendly and professional and made our stay more than comfortable. We paid $25US for a massive double room with massive bathroom, cable tv, wifi and ac.
