Hotel De L'Opera

A tactile palace

What we say: 3.5 stars

This new hotel, opened in June 2011, is a noteworthy addition to the Opera House area, introducing some bling between the classic style of the Metropole and the conventionalism of the Hilton. All the features and furnishings, from the velvet padded walls and gold tassels in reception to the pearlescent floor tiles in the bathrooms, are exquisite and as soon as you enter you are transported away from the streets of Hanoi to a world where the beds come up to your waist and you want to touch everything. Standard rooms are quite small, but you can forgive a room many things when it comes with L'Occitane toiletries and a fluffy gown. We've heard reports that there are still a few kinks that need ironing out, but on the face of it it's the most colourful of the five-star options. Look online for special deals, including dinner in their very swish restaurant.
