Thanh Binh Hotel
Fine English spoken here

What we say:
This 15-room mini-hotel is located opposite the Ngoc Anh Hotel and while it is a bit more expensive then the Ngoc Anh it doesn't do much to justify the higher rates. Rooms are clean and come in all shapes and sizes but are not all that well appointed. On the upside, the management speaks fine English and are eager to assist.

Don’t stay here because so loud in the midnight night
We had the Thanh Binh Hotel recommended by a fellow traveller we met in Hanoi. Possibly he and I had different ideas of what we wanted from a hotel. Our room were fine. A/c worked and the bed was ok but the bathroom was dirty and smelly, and the noise were too loud in the midnight because there are a lot of African players staying here. They played music by laptop, laughed and chatted, meaning there was no way of sleeping past 2am. So we had to change our second night but in the morning, even there is a staff trying on to be very push with the Puluong tour they offer, these trip are very poorly intinerary and expensive. With our valued experience, we wouldn’t strongly recommend Thanh Binh Hotel.

Bad hotel we have stayed in Vietnam
This hotel is very big and new but not so good. We stayed there in Sep '09, my room was smelly & everything is also not good such as matress was too soft so in the morning we had a pain in our back, hot water is very slow and not strong, bicycle is expensive and the receptionist (big man) spoke English not too much and talked impolitely. Not only impolite but also he is very pushy (tried on to sell tours), so we were afraid of listening to him.

Very good all round
Staff very friendly, helpful and efficient. English pretty good. In low season you can negotiate a room price, we paid $8 for a room with private bathroom and a nice view of the town , good value for money. Room spotless and spacious. Bed was good and firm with decent pillows, towels good. Quiet except for trucks on main road, a block away, that hoot loudly throughout every 24 hours. Bathroom clean with flush western toilet and hot shower, hot water doesn’t last too long though.Electrical outlets. Don’t know about bag storage but sure they have. Free internet available in lobby and 2 computers. A decent breakfast (2 eggs, baguette and coffee/tea) for $1 is available in their restaurant. They do all meals and suppers are excellent value for money with huge portions and great variety of foods (platter) in each meal. Notice though that there aren’t any prices on the menu so ask before you order “just to make sure”. There aren’t any other restaurants in town that will match this restaurant on quality of food and affordability. Laundry service is available as well as motorbike and bicycle hire. No international payphones that we saw. Hotel looks clean and almost new, you feel welcome. Give their snake wine a try among the numerous vats of interesting concoctions on the counter in the restaurant.
