Holiday View Hotel

Dullsville

This place is usually hopping with Vietnamese tourists, even in low season. Maybe that's why we found the staff a bit distracted. It didn't help that the lobby is one, big, massive echo chamber and there were twenty people inside it all talking at once. When we saw the rooms, we couldn't quite understand why this place was a three star hotel -- they are characterless, if adequately clean and well-maintained. We suspect this place draws business mostly due to it's size, it's star-rating, and working with luxury tour operators. But for our money, the Princes Hotel around the corner has got it going on, and this place is dullsville.

Holiday View Hotel reviews

Read 4 opinions from Travelfish readers

It's not the hotel, it's the island - 17th March, 2009
The hotel itself is lovely - nicely appointed rooms with big/clean bathrooms, good views and cable TV. Good thing about the TV since there isn't much else to do on the island, at least in non-peak season. We came to the island as part of a 3 day/2 night Halong Bay Tour from Hanoi (we had spent the first night on a boat) and were a bit disappointed that there was little to do in the evening other than to walk up and down a fairly boring ''main'' street.

So dull it was almost funny - 29th January, 2007
Holiday View Hotel is quite comfortable and fortunately we were able to watch a DVD during the long evening. The restaurant was quite good but soulless and overpriced. One tour guide told us that people from his agency hated staying on Cat Ba because it was so dull, and that one had been reduced to tears after a fortnight there

Nice room but no internet - 22nd May, 2009
The room was lovely, clean and nice! However, there was no wifi here. There were a few computers at the lobby. Yet, the charge was quite high especially to a backpacker like me.

It was part of the tour - 16th May, 2009
I stayed here for a night as part of a 3D2N Halong Bay tour. The room is very clean, and all the furnishings are in excellent condition. It is very comfortable. However if you had to eat the food here, the quality is only mediocre and the drinks extremely overpriced. Stay here, but eat outside.
