Yes, there's a very popular guidebook out there that recommends this place -- the name escapes us. Lonely...something. Anyway, usually places give up trying after such a boon and live off the traffic it brings in, but not so here. It's still a great place to stay, with a friendly staff and clean, spacious rooms, at a good price -- the ones along the front balcony have a great atmosphere, particularly at night. Travellers report getting a very square deal and good information from the helpful owner, who speaks English well. If you're too tired to shop around when you get to Cat Ba, head straight here.

A good place to stay

I enjoyed my stay here. The owner was extremely helpful organising a terrific guide to take me across the national park and giving me lots of helpful information. I was able to use the balcony and the room was quite big and comfortable.
