What we say:

This is a great little place for those staying in Cat Ba for more than a night. First of all, it's got an internet cafe on the ground floor, which is quite convenient, and rare for Cat Ba. Second, the staff are courteous and friendly (also not always the case in Cat Ba). Third the rooms are bright and spacious -- all of them have good views of the bay through the distinctive cathedral-style windows. And finally, the back wall of the hotel is the cliff it rests up against! No fooling, go in and take a look for yourself. You walk up the first flight of interior stairs and there it is. We thought it was pretty cool. Good prices, too.

Pretty Good

When I went, they first tried to charge me $10 for a private fan room, but changed to $7.50 when I said I could stay elsewhere for cheaper. The room was clean enough and the staff were generally friendly; it didn't seem to stand out from the other hotels in Cat Ba. The windows are large and there's a really nice view of the water. The nicest thing about Nam Phuong is that it's right next to the Flightless Bird Cafe.

Great option for Cat Ba

Really nice place to stay on Cat Ba. We paid US$5 for a room with two beds, hot water, and a fan. Really nice owners, didn't speak English well but got a friend who did to come over so we could work things out. Amazing view of the Harbour, and yes, the back wall actually is the cliff! Good experience here on our one night on Cat Ba.
