Mela Hotel

What we say: 3 stars

The Mela was once our top pick in Tam Dao but has not kept up with the pack in recent years. Room design is dated, with a lot of fake wood
panelling, stone cladding and fake leather -- look out for the garish bright green couch in reception, not that you could miss it. All rooms
do feature satellite TVs, small wet bathrooms with hot water, radiators and double beds, with the larger rooms offering two double beds and
air-con. The bright spot here are spacious balconies overlooking the slightly green tinged water in a large swimming pool and the mountain
side as it falls away from the town. Room prices include breakfast in the Bamboo restaurant downstairs and service charges and tax will add
another 20% to your bill. A nightclub of sorts and a conference room is available should you feel the need to call a snap board meeting. The staff say that trekking trips can be organised here to the three peaks with a local guide. Mela Hotel's room prices are higher than others in town and even with the views, they now offer poor value.
