Most popular as a weekend jaunt for Saigon and Phnom Penh expats, the ideally-situated Victoria is easily the classiest hotel in town. Set at the junction of the Bassac River and the tributary leading to the Mekong, this is the place to spend an afternoon sitting on your balcony, sipping G&Ts while watching the river traffic. Rooms are exceedingly comfortable, in modern-Asian style, with firm beds, very good views and all the mod cons. Staff are friendly and professional, and a riverside pool beckons. By Chau Doc standards, the hotel is outrageously expensive, but great deals are available online for weekend jaunts, so let your fingers do the shopping.
