Hien Guest House
Hidden away spot, mixed value
What we say:
Hidden down the end of a tucked away alley, Hien Guesthouse now has two properties, Hien Guesthouse and Hien 2 Guesthouse. The former has rooms with share bathroom only, while the newer has rooms with private bathroom. Overall the rooms are very clean and well looked after, but the pricier rooms do not represent great value. A few points clouded our stay here. The proprietor, while a friendly and polite English-speaking man, went into an extremely hard sell on the floating market boat-trips before we had even got our bags to the room. Secondly, if you opt to stay in Hien 2, you need to lock a heavy shuttered door on leaving yourselves, and we were a bit surprised to find upon trying to get out the following morning a second padlock was on the door for which we had no key. While Hien isn't the only guesthouse that locks their guests in, it's a very poor and unsafe practice. Those points aside, the rooms are only a short walk from the riverfront area.

the room was satisfactory and clean. the location was fine. however, the man who checked us in tried to sell us bus tickets for almost twice the price of the actual price and gouged us on the river tour. we enjoyed the tour and our guide but it is highly unlikely that she received more than 20 of the 45 dollars we paid for the day. so if you decide to stay here just don't buy anything else from them.

Not how i wanted to spend my holiday
After seeing this guest house listed here and in lonely planet, we gave it a shot. The very nice lady informed us she only had one room, for 8$ a night. Unfortunately, the bed wasn't clean, there was a man singing karaoke loudly nearby, and the one window looked out to a brick wall six inches away. We opted to stay elsewhere.
