Description
Hidden down the end of a tucked away alley, Hien Guesthouse now has two properties, Hien Guesthouse and Hien 2 Guesthouse. The former has rooms with share bathroom only, while the newer has rooms with private bathroom. Overall the rooms are very clean and well looked after, but the pricier rooms do not represent great value. A few points clouded our stay here. The proprietor, while a friendly and polite English-speaking man, went into an extremely hard sell on the floating market boat-trips before we had even got our bags to the room. Secondly, if you opt to stay in Hien 2, you need to lock a heavy shuttered door on leaving yourselves, and we were a bit surprised to find upon trying to get out the following morning a second padlock was on the door for which we had no key. While Hien isn't the only guesthouse that locks their guests in, it's a very poor and unsafe practice. Those points aside, the rooms are only a short walk from the riverfront area.

Hotel 31
31 Ngo Duc Ke St, Can Tho
As with the Huy Hoang next door, Hotel 31 (so-named due to its street address) is a popular stop with the Saigon tour-group mob scene, with its two-level restaurant filling up to bursting with tourists at lunch time. These temporary crowds aside, this is a very good value hotel with the streetside... more

Hotel 27
27 Chau Van Liem St, Can Tho
Hotel 27 is primarily targeted towards Vietnamese, though they accept western guests. The facade of gleaming white and silver hides behind it fairly dreary, though massive rooms. If there are three or four of you wanting to share, then this is worth considering -- just don't expect the rooms to... more

Huy Hoang Hotel
35 Ngo Duc Ke St, Can Tho
This very popular backpacker joint is a typical Chinese-style hotel with oodles of featureless, bland rooms with squishy mattresses and passable bathrooms. For the money, it is isn't too bad, but for a little more, Hotel 31 next door is far better value. The restaurant here is used by the Saigon... more
