Than Kieu Beach
Characterless but functional

What we say:
Than Kieu Beach, aka the resort formerly known as Coco Beach, offers a decent range of bungalows at slightly inflated rates. Rooms are scattered along the beachfront, and back in an attractively landscaped garden. Strangely, the newest beachfront bungalows are the least attractive -- homely little brick cabins with concrete railings on the porch. Rooms are characterless but functional, with firm mattresses, outdoor hot-water showers, and hammocks and chairs in front of all the rooms. It's not a bad place -- but for the price, you'd expect more character or style.

Not impressed
I thought Coco Beach was awful. We paid US$20 for a garden bungalow, the sheets were dirty, the room was full of insects and the bathroom wasn't clean. Way overpriced and you can get a lot better value for your money.

Good Cheap Option
Austere bungalows. We went for the US$20/night garden view bungalows, which are one row back from the beach view bungalows, but every bit as nice. each bungalow has a porch with a table, chairs and comfy hammock! Our fridge didn't stay plugged in, and there was no hot water (who needs hot water at the beach though?). The location is good for long beach. Right about middle, and next to the Rainbow Bar (on the beach) -- very handy! Free use of beach recliners and hammocks. Motorbike rental/hire for 100,000 Dong per day.

Great deal in a tropical paradise
The bungalows are large, very clean and all have their own deck. Staff were excellent, spoke good English and were always on hand to assist with whatever you needed. Highly recommended!

Great Staff
We stayed both in a 'beachside' and a 'gardenview' bungalow over the Christmas high season in 2006. First off, the staff is excellent - the main attendant spoke pretty good English and he helped organize both a scuba/boat trip and motor bike rental - each were extremely comparable in price to going somewhere outside of the hotels area. I would agree that in comparing the garden and the beach front view during the high season, you get very little extra for the percentage increase in price. The garden even had a little better bathroom than the beachview in my opinion. The only thing I might warn people of is the shower - note that since this IS a bungalow, the shower is meager (and cold) - if you require a hot shower with reasonable pressure you'll have to go to one of the resorts up the beach - if your a little adventurous and don't mind the cold water (especially if the weather is so hot like it was) then it's a great deal comparing to the others. In addition, the bungalows are in a very good spot, roughly right in the center of all the action - it's just a quick walk up or down the beach (or even directly at the beach is the Rainbow Bar) to the restaurants, etc. P.S, if your interested in photos of the place, I'll be putting some up here (http://www.flickr.com/photos/36733477@N00/sets/72057594079366448/)
