Thousand Stars Resort
Sculpture mayhem

What we say:
You thought the Petronas Towers were only in Malaysia? Not so -- they're here in concrete miniature at Thousand Stars Resort, along with the Singapore Merlion, the Sydney Opera and a faded Dutch windmill. The concrete nightmare doesn't end there -- dolphins are stuck in an eternal arch over the beach, and two giant prawns guard the grungy restaurant. Maybe all of this is just to distract from the rooms, which are dark, dingy, and have no atmosphere -- and seem grossly overpriced, on top of it. You shouldn't consider staying here unless you have a morbid penchant for the bizarre -- and are willing to part with a few extra bucks to satisfy it.

quirky but good value
I'm actually here at thousand stars resort for a few more nights. After staying at Tropicana ($20 US - Dingy room, holes in the walls, grimy pool) and Duong Dong ($28 US - no wifi in room, no pool, restaurant food so-so) we moved here. All the staff are lovely, restaurant is cheap but good filling Asian meals, beer is cheap and the free breakfast menu is one of the most extensive I've seen in SE Asia. Sure the cement statues are a bit weird, but make for some good photos. The room is nice (mini fridge, TV, aircon) and the pool is lovely and very big. Standard room here costs $18 US which being 10 dollars cheaper than Duong Dong is a great deal. I'll be back here next year.

Thousand Stars SCAM Resort
my company booked me this hotel based on the photos on their website and their ads posted every where, big mistake! rubbish is everywhere, no beach at all, ruin down buildings and the dirty swimming pool lost some tiles. the rooms are dirty with the horrible smell of mould, curtains are dirty you wouldn't dare to touch, same thing with furniture, toilet, mosquitos net, beddings, the air-con is dead... i highly recommend some one buy the place and re-construct the resort, let's save our tourist!

Great
You definitely won't find any other accommodation on Long Beach/PQ at all with the same facilities (a/c, lovely pool area, large bungalow, private balcony, hot shower, loungers etc) for anywhere near the same price (expect to pay at least double). Also, it is located around a cove away from the crowds, jetskis and disgracefully bad music in the bars on Long Beach, but walking distance to all the restaurants. Popular with all nationalities, not just sunburnt Westerners! So long as you can look past the occasional concrete monstrosity and don't expect good service from the waiting staff, then this is the best option. PQ is great and would definitely recommend everyone to visit!
