Thang Loi Resort
Secluded and comfortable

What we say:
Set to the south of Ong Lang Beach, between Ob Resort and Mango Bay, Thang Loi Resort is nestled among a coconut and garden grove. At the centre of the rooms is a large comfortable restaurant, well suited to losing a few days with a good book or so. The resort is spacious and well laid out with a bunch of old-style bungalows well spread across the grounds. Some are large wood and bamboo affairs, with ample hammock space and good views, while the cheaper huts are a bit more rustic, but still very well-sized. While the resort was closed when we visited in late October 2008, Thang Loi continues to get rave reviews for the clean rooms and friendly staff. Open only from November to early May.

In the nature
We stayed for 3 nights and it's a perfect place to relax and chillout in the nature. If you look for the 'normal' hotel standard like having air-conditioning and luxury 'material' accessories then this is not what you are looking for. But if you want to get away from the bustling and noisy city life and get into the peaceful and quiet 'jungle' with palm/coconut trees, cottage bungalow and the beach at your door step, having nap on hammocks under palm trees on the beach, you come to the right place. The owner and staff are very friendly and helpful, they speek good English.

Beautiful Gem
Friendly staff and great owners. Feel home away from home. Chill on you bungalow deck watching the gorgeous sunset and during the day laze with a book in a sleepy hammock or at Bo beach.. Great for couples and families! Thanks for the memories ...

Romantic 'Treehouse' Feel & Best Food we had on the Island
Loved the place - even during quiet Tet, it was a perfect place for my girlfriend and I to get away to and escape the madness of Shanghai during Spring Festival. Stayed at Thang Loi on super secluded Ong Lang beach. The place had great food (especially the fresh squid) and an almost tree-house feel. Now, not a real tree house, but nicely situated at the crest of a gently slopping hill looking through a coconut grove to the ocean. Just a few minutes walk and you pass Bo Resort, suddenly you've got 5km of empty beach in front of you. I mean empty, no bungalows, and often no people. We just camped at Thang Loi for 6 days, reading books, swimming, chatting with the guests and owner. The perfect time - went into the city once for ice-cream and then ran back to our retreat. We got the beach front bungalow and so we had a perfect time staring at the sunsets before heading up to read a book in the most comfortable dining area I've had on an island - just clean, neat, and not overdone. On New Years the owner treated us to some local rum as we all chatted away about life, universe, and everything - I must say they are a big draw offering solid advice about what to do on the island. I almost never go back to where I've been - but I already feel the pull.

Very bad. Expensive. Rude owner.
We booked seaside bungalow for 3 nights (30 EUR per night!!!) and were very disappointed: 1) bungalows at the resort are very old and dirty 2) there is no hot water in bungalows 3) electricity from 5PM until 11PM 4) remote location, no shops or restaurants around 5) bad beds with old matresses and pillows 6) wine was mixed with water 7) internet can be accessed via owners laptop and you have to pay for 15 min of use 8) very loud at night because of crickets and animals 9) resort area is not cleaned from leaves regularly and it is possible to be bitten by snakes We slept at bungalow 1 night and managed to rest only for 3 hours in total because of cricket noise and boat motor sounds in the morning. Next day we decided to move and told the owner about this. In Vietnam hotel usually holds your passport during your stay and Thang Loi Resort owner (male) threatened us to keep passports if we won't pay him 90 EUR. He was very rude, used explicit language and racial insults. We managed to negotiate 50 EUR, paid and left. Our holiday was almost ruined.

Perfect spot for doing nothing!
This is a great chilled out spot and next door to a beautiful, fairly secluded beach (where Bo resort is). The bungalows are basic and have everything you need but are looking a bit run down. The restaurant is good although we felt breakfast was a bit overpriced and there is an excellent local restaurant 2 minutes up the path called Sakura . The owner is lovely and speaks great English and cooks some of the best food we had in Vietnam.

Simply but the best!
We (4 adults; between 30-45 years; already stays many times in Asia, backpackers) moved a bit disappointed from Long Beach (nice bungalows but bad and expensive food on the beach-restaurants, many waiters didn’t speak English, instead fresh fruit-juice you get Coke!). So we try Thang Loi: it was definitely a good choice! Nice and romantic beach (better than the pictures on the web-site!) with wooden sun-shades and deck-chairs, attractive, natural exotic garden, restaurant with pleasant overview and even the very simply bungalows give a charmed ambiance. We rent the standard-bungalows in the first range(better than the second range); inside you find a large bed with a good mattress, mosquito-net, enough hooks for the clothes-lines, a shelf, a small table with a little lamp, a chair, bamboo-furniture on the terrace the only bad points: roads of small ants on the wall in the very, very small bathroom and the plastic-mirror in its to awful condition …If you chose one of the beachfront bungalows you will be happy at all = very nice, renovated, more luxury, but natural island-style is definite. In the restaurant the Vietnamese lady offered a very good and correct service (compared with the other waiters on Phu Quoc, she was a rare jewel!). The owners are very, very friendly and helpful persons! We enjoyed also the good taste of the various foods for reasonable prices; If you are looking for a relative cheap resort (comparative!) with a nice and quite beach and a natural ambiance on Phu Quoc, this is the first address!

great getaway!
this picture of the bunglaows is not current..they look much better than this! They acutally have a choice of a couple different styles, we stayed in the basic, and it was great! had everything we needed, comfy bed, deck with chairs, and bathroom. The resort is somewhat secluded, and the restaurant is really nice, great food, and great, friendly german owners...! Loved it, treated us like family! Highly recommended!

Just perfect
Spacious enough huts for your bags as you spend most of the time outdoors anyway and very clean and rustic. Good restaurant and clean surroundings. Stayed here for four nights. A good bargain.

Beware booking more than one night
We recently booked 4 nights at the Thang Loi but upon arrival found that electricity is only available 6pm-11pm (no mention of this on their website) which meant a very stuffy first night. Next morning we decided to leave due to lack of sleep, we were told by the owner/manager that we had to pay for all four nights that we'd booked. When I refused he threatened to call the police! This spoiled what had been, apart from the lack of fans overnight, a very pleasant stay in nice surroundings. If you are thinking of staying here my advice would be book one night only and then extend night by night.

Comfort with sunset every evening
We got a family room for US$20. The place is popular. We had to book in advance. Very friendly staff. German owned - German ruled! Clean environment with no paper or plastic bags on the ground. Nice shady spot, next to a lovely beach (Bo Resort). The restaurant is super.
