Tam Xuan is a bag of mixed blessings. It's located right above a colourful morning market, which adds a distinctly Vietnamese atmosphere -- but it also means you'll be greeted with the smell of fish the second you walk outside or open your window. It has great river views -- of a muddy weed-choked canal. Overall though it does come out ahead, with massive rooms hosting big beds, attractive dark wood furniture, thoughtful decor and spotless tiled bathrooms. It also has a few perks, like fridges and satellite TV. More expensive rooms have the views, though they get particularly noisy in the early morning. Cheaper rooms in the middle have no windows at all, while those in the back have small windows and aren't bad value -- and they'll get less noise than rooms in front. Recommended.
