Viet Hoang Guest House
Could do worse

What we say:
This place is across from the bus station, closer to the Thanh Binh bridge. The rooms we saw were light and airy, if a bit musty, but an improvement over the nearby Hai Yen on that score. They are a bit cramped but some come with a balcony and you won't pay more for it. Otherwise, bland but decent furnishing, mossy nets and broadcast TVs, although the bathrooms are a bit grimy and bedding's well worn. An attempt has been made to brighten up some of the rooms with plastic flowers but this doesn't have the desired effect. The lobby is well-lived-in by the family that runs it, so it's sorta homey in that regard. Not the worst choice.

Viet Hoang = May Hong = Weird Staff
We stayed in May Hong Hotel which is located down an alley right opposite the bus stop right behind Viet Hong which is run by the same people and the rooms are the same price and standard. Off the main road so less traffic noise than others. Comfortable enough rooms. Staff friendly but some strange behaviour - entering the room without knocking, peering through the windows. The hotel was very noisy at night and early morning with the staff shouting and running up and down the stairs. It was as if they were using the hotel as their own residence and disregarding the guests. It's right opposite the bus station and a 15 minute flat walk to the airport so it is convenient for when you want to ''escape'' Dien Bien Phu, however there are others nearby which may have better behaved staff. We paid 150,000 Dong for a double in March 2010.
