Dien Bien Phu Hanoi Hotel
Better than it looks

What we say:
A relatively fancy option for Dien Bien Phu, although the grey concrete building is particularly uninspiring. Reception has a professional feel to it and rooms are well decorated with light wood furniture (shame about the lime green curtains) and equipped with minibar, TV, air-con and shower bathrooms. They were busy on our last visit so we were only able to view a ground floor room, which lacked the light we'd expect in higher rooms so felt a bit gloomy. Breakfast is included but it's still the most expensive option in town.

Convenient
This hotel was a lot cheaper when I stayed there. It was quite a good room, though there was a karaoke place just behind it, which fortunately didn't go too late. The best thing about the hotel was the staff and particularly one fellow, a history graduate who spoke excellent English and doubled as a really excellent tour guide. The hotel is within walking distance of anything you would want to see and not far from the market and some reasonable eating places. Probably because there are not so many tourists in Dien Bien Phu, I had to order ahead for any meals I wanted at the hotel, including breakfast, and even then, I couldn't always get one. But I was given helpful advice about where else i could eat. You will need a phrasebook for anywhere you eat in town.
