Congfu Hotel
A good midrange option

What we say:
What's in a name. Good English is spoken here, and no, their lips don't move completely out of sync with what they're saying. Opened in 2008, Congfu is getting a bit worn but rooms are still clean and light and there are market views from six of their 21 rooms — the rooms smell good too. They all have double or twin beds, air-con, tubs in the bath and satellite TV and most rooms seem to feature some kind of balcony. We were quoted the same price for all rooms regardless of whether they have a view or not. There's a large restaurant downstairs which gets taken over at lunchtime by tour groups.

Clean and comfortable
Stayed one night after riding up in the rain from Sapa. Room was clean, bright and airy, with a balcony. Staff weren't on-your-face friendly, but were helpful. If the restaurant doesn't appear to be open, just go in and sit at a table, and a waiter/chef will appear. Good solid option minutes' walk from the famous market.

Just as advertised
We found the warm praise given the Congfu by Travelfish to be right on target. Nice room, good service, forgettable restaurant. David and Tuyet Brown, Hanoi
