Description
If you must have luxury, you must come here. But only because it's the only luxury option we know of in Lao Cai. Entering the place, reception is on the first floor, and the stairs lead up to a second floor holding a bar, casino and so many Chinese decorations we weren't sure what side of the border we were on. For the price of a new mobile phone, you'll get a sleek, motel-style room for the night, with grey carpet, good furnishings, satellite TVs, tubs in the very smart little bathrooms, and views of the Hong River available only if you stand out in the hall. It's more of a place to go separate yourself from the riff-raff than enjoy fine accommodation. There's a restaurant, sauna, massage and so on, while internet is available for US$1 per hour. Really, guesthouses aren't so bad, it's only for the night, so don't encourage these people. And you'll have enough money left over to buy a needy person a new mobile.
