What we say: 
Everything's clean and proper here at the Thuy Hoa, so if you get dropped off at Lao Cai International and you haven't booked yet, just walk down the road and stay here. Rooms are around a courtyard but those at the front have small balconies with river views, and the rooms are spacious, light and airy with fan and air-con. If you must have a satellite TV, however, you'll have to walk back up the street again. To get there, cross the Coc Lou Bridge and turn immediately right — it's up on the left.
