What we say: 
We spied this place on the edge of town heading towards Lao Cai, just on the left, and singled it out because of the beautiful stilt house where, we assumed, the rooms are. They aren't. They are dank little cells tucked under the house. But the restaurant seating area out front more than makes up for the crappy rooms. Rooms feature a bed, a TV and a smelly bathroom. Be prepared to be awoken at 05:00 by truckers showing up for breakfast. But it's for the best -- an early start will give you more time to sort out a room once you get to Sapa. If you're heading the other way on your own transport, you still probably won't make it to Hanoi before nightfall. The price we were quoted here is not the price we paid -- bargaining will get you a discount.
