The ramparts of this modern take on a castle stand in view of the Delta Restaurant down a side street leading away from the main drag through Sapa. They have a reasonable selection of unreasonably-priced but classy rooms in their new wing and cheaper options in the old wing. The Chau Long has a good bar and restaurant serving mid-range western and Vietnamese entrees — breakfast is included in the new wing room price. The hotel's most unique feature is a heated swimming pool. It's small, in a courtyard on a lower floor, completely closed in with windows, and only really tempting during winter. In summer, you'd feel like a fish in a bowl. There is also a massage and spa offer with sauna and Jacuzzi. The location is good, so the views from the new wing in particular are fantastic. Walk-in discount rates may be available.

Cosy and luxurious

We stayed here as part of a package deal on a Handspan tour and loved it! The rooms were gorgeous with views over the mountains (particularly on the higher floors). The room also had an electric heater which was wonderful in the cold evenings of January. The breakfasts that were included with the room were very impressive with cooked options as well as pastries and continental. There was also free internet (if you could handle the cold as they never seemed to turn the heater on in this area). We thought this room was extremely romantic and would highly recommend it.
