Description
The big white Bamboo Sapa comes up short of its three-star rating. There are great views both from the rooms and the restaurant balcony, however the food is less than ordinary. We've had complaints of rooms without working air-con, though in this price range, air-con is absolutely to be expected. In winter, some rooms are inadequately heated and it's necessary to petition the staff for an electric heater if your lips are turning blue. We found poor attention to detail in the room design, fireplaces that were ornamental and not functional, and rather spare rooms with seriously scuffed and scratched furniture. The baths look good, with their decorative tiles and deep tubs, but in winter, the water may trickle in so slowly that the hot water will turn cold before the tub is filled. Like many group tour outfits in Sapa, this place has neglected service in favour of luring in the hapless, sight-unseen.

This hotel would be good if it sorted out a few details. There's no AC or heating (unless you ask for a portable heater), TV was Vietnamese/Italian only, and the hot water was so slow it was barely possible to wash in the freezing bathroom. It doesn't really merit 3 stars like this. Sapa in general provides an interesting opportunity to see gap year students wearing charming ethnic hats.

Cau May Street, Sapa
The Royal View is just up the road from its sister hotel, the Royal Sapa. Its hillside position means that reception is actually on the fifth floor, with rooms above and below, accessible via stairs and a slightly wonky elevator. One of the newest hotels in Sapa, the Royal View has good facilities... more
Sapa Goldsea Hotel

Located down the hill on the way towards Cat Cat village, this two-year-old hotel features dark hallways and worn carpets in a manner you would expect from a 15-year-old veteran. Many of the views are obstructed by bamboo trees. Some of the rooms have nice bay windows, but no balconies. The... more
