Auberge Hotel
Tasteful

What we say:
This is a fine old place with a French and English speaking staff, built in the style of many mountain-top retreats from the colonial period. Unfortunately there was work being done on our last visit so the once pretty courtyard was full of rubble and the entrance is now up a grotty stairwell near Mimosa Restaurant — look for the sign on Cau May. Hopefully this will soon be completed. Ignore the courtyard though as the rooms are worth a look — they're sparsely but tastefully decorated and a good size, many with a double and single bed, and they all come with air-con, quality bedding, tubs in the bath and big fireplaces. Those on upper floors have great views. Prices are reasonable in the week but jump up considerably at the weekend.

not what it promises
The room was freezing, due to the wet wood furnished. (Although we got a small sepearte heater, we could not arrive at more then around 17/18C.) We heard someone on the first floor had to pay for the wood('' for the minorities'') Bedlinen not clean, light in bathroom not enough to shave by. Staff unfriendly, and not willing to repair the advertised wifi. '' No Wifi'' For 25$ (they tried for 30$) not worthwhile all those steps.

cooooooold
staff and location was great but the place was freezing.we thought by paying $25 it would mean a warm comfortable room but it was not. the fireplace is nice just make sure to get your wood as early as possible.

Lovely atmospheric guest house
I stayed at the Auberge for 1 night on a whistle stop trip to Sapa in June. For $15 I had a very large, comfortable and very clean room with a lovely spacious bathroom with tub. I also had a great view of the mountains from the shared balcony, and a fireplace for colder nights. The staff were very friendly and we arranged an excellent day trek with them which took us on a stunning walk through the mountains, paddy fields, and bamboo forests. Definitely check Auberge out, it's great value for money!
