Pinochio Hotel
A very popular backpacker option

What we say:
This very popular backpacker option has a good reputation, and deservedly so. Rooms provide a top combination of low prices and good views. They have four differently priced rooms, all reasonably spacious, with large cable TV, good furnishings, cheerful bedding and mediocre bathrooms with shower or tub. Some sleep three so good for a group. There's plenty of outside balcony space, making it a fine place to kick up your heels in the evening and meet other travellers, although seating's in short supply. The friendly staff speaks English well.

Great view, ok room, cheap
I believe I paid $5/night for a single room. I was on the sixth floor, and as someone mentioned, those rooms aren't great - if I remember correctly, the wall didn't go quite to the ceiling, so I could hear the people in the next room quite clearly. The advantage of being on the sixth floor, however, was the view, which was incredible. Also, it was quite cheap, and there was free internet. It definitely wasn't the nicest place I stayed on my trip, but between the price and the view, it wasn't too bad either.

Good value
Stayed here two nights and the room was great! Large beds and a big bathroom. We paid $8 for a twin. Great view when the fog's gone! The duvets have seen better days but were clean and fresh. The owner is helpfull, for tours and sends her brother in for a motorbike tour. BUT: don't forget to ask for your passport when you leave Sa Pa! We forgot and they had to send it by motorbike to the train station!

No frills, but decent value
The boss is tough as nails, but she's nice when you get her to chill out. Staff are friendly. Rooms are okay, don't take the 6th floor if you can avoid it - it's just some clapboard stuck onto the flat roof. Overall, cheap, well-located, with a decent restaurant that has some interesting stuff on the menu ('Roast bird' gets you a plate of sparrows). There might be better in Sapa at this price, but this served us well for a week.

OK for the money - better options in town
I stayed here for two nights and paid $10 for a double room. Staff is friendly and helpful, and the location is excellent but the rooms are a bit musty smelling and the staff is extremely loud early in the morning (like right outside your door) and it's hard to sleep past 6:30am due to the noise. Overall, there are nicer rooms available (with views) at other guest houses for the same amount of money. I don't think I'd stay here again.
