Cheap and cheerful
Tucked away down Muong Hoa, about five minutes past Bamboo Sapa Hotel and off the main tourist strip, Green Valley is a budget option where you might manage to get a last-minute room.
Rooms have no special features -- twin beds, mossie nets, shower bathrooms, wardrobe and no fans – and they are showing notable signs of damp, but are clean enough and hot water runs around the clock. Dorm rooms of four beds are also available. There are TVs in the rooms but no cable; the large reception area houses a random array of sofas and a huge plasma TV with cable though so you can get your fix there if you need it. Large communal balconies at the front overlook the valley although you'll have to take your own chair. While we've called Green Valley cheap and cheerful, the ‘cheerful' doesn't relate to the rooms but rather to how you're likely to feel if you spend a while in the second floor bar drinking cheap La Rue and playing pool with other travellers. Breakfast isn't included but can be ordered for a few dollars.
