Cong Doan Son La
Biggest in town
What we say:
With 80 rooms on offer, this is the one place in town where you're practically guaranteed to find a bed. The midrange offerings are a bit spare, but pretty, in light wood tones, with some of the highest ceilings we've seen in Vietnam, and balconies — some of which have a good view if you can look beyond the car park below. You also get soft beds, big satellite TVs, a bath and complimentary breakfast — though we hear you have to get there early to be sure of finding any food. They also serve evening meals. The helpful staff speak some English — not a bad choice, but you might do better off over at the Sunrise for cheaper. Situated next to the park on the opposite side to 26-8 Road.

This is nearly double what it cost when I was there and even then I didn't think it was great value. It was raining when I stayed one night and the hotel was really busy as most of the four wheel drives couldn't get through the mud to Dien Bien Phu. (fortunately I went on the local bus which gets through whatever is going on). It seemed like everyone stayed at this hotel. The rooms leaked, the foyer was always wet and it was impossible to get a dry towel. The dining room was very busy and unexceptional food had to stretch a long way. If you weren't early you were lucky to get anything much to eat.

Decent No Frills Room
We took a 4 bed room here for 210,000D - which works out quite cheap per person. No frills, but the staff are okay, there are mossie nets, and the bathroom was fine. It was scorching hot though. Despite looking old and run down the place is good value - i would def. stay again.
