What we say:

Son Thinh II is one of the best of the numerous budget guesthouses that line the seafront. For a start, it's cheaper than most. Secondly, it makes a lot more effort with its rooms. Although not too big, the interiors are decked in wooden ornaments and furnishings, creating what may be the only cheap seaside hotel in Vietnam that has character. The elevator is a tidy surprise, there is also a small roof terrace with a good view of the sea and the city, perfect for late night drinks. Rooms have air-con and a TV, bathrooms are more than adequate, and the location is fine -- just one minute from the beach.

Son Thinh Hotels

Please watch out that there are 2 Son Thinh hotels in Vungtau. Son Thinh 2 is near the beach and is generally good value. DO NOT go to Son Thinh Hotel at 249 Le Hong {hong Street F8 VT Tel: 064 523492 I was refered here bcos Son Thinh 2 was full. When I check in, they said the hotel is running on emy power as the mains is not coming. But they assured it will be restored soon and advised me to go and take my dinner. After dinner, I came back, took a shower and realised ac is still not working. Called recept, she said hotel on emy pwr, asked when mains will be restored, she said, dont know. Ask for an extra fan as it's really damm hot, she said dun have. Ask for discount, again rejected. I want to leave immediately, she said, she's gg to charge me for 1 night stay. Felt so cheated. Hope to alert all so that you dont get into same trap. It's not about the price but lousy feeling of being cheated.
