Duna Hotel

Frumpy rooms

What we say

The Duna Hotel has frumpy rooms with fluorescent blankets and aged pine chipboard furniture. The cheapest rooms have mismatched furniture and are quite poor value. The bathrooms throughout are excellent -- very clean and well-maintained. However, the whole place seems to lack the motivation to improve -- nothing has changed here for years. Only the deluxe rooms have street frontage. The only possible benefit of staying here over other much better guesthouses in the area are the prices, which remain comparatively low.

Indiscrete staff - 24th January, 2010
Rooms are okay for a short stay. Clean but not great. Front rooms are in broad daylight and in traffic noise with no chance of shutting the light out as soon as the sun rises. Back rooms are more quiet, however kinda filthy and towels would not dry out, even with two days on the hanger. Light in the shower was broken and warm water took forever to heat up, needed to keep the shower running for at least 10 minutes. Staff is friendly to begin with but they are highly indiscrete. They told several other people who I went out with the night before, when I came back home, what motorbike my friend was driving and where I would go next and when I would check out. Unacceptable! The girl selling the tours in front speaks mediocre english but when I asked her why she would tell all that stuff to someone who is not even staying in the hotel, she claimed all of a sudden that she doesnt speak English anymore. :-( When I checked out, the reception didnt accept my 50 dollar note and forced me to pay with credit card, charging an extra 3%! I really don't get it. Their Vietnamese dongs are in the worst condition but the tiniest tear in a dollar note makes them frown. It was unfair and not right to do that! Hotel shuts down around 1 am, if you come after that you have to ring the bell to wake the nightguard. You can't bring your friend to the hotel because of ''vietnamese law bla bla bla you have to book a new room bla bla bla''....

Indiscrete staff - 23rd January, 2010
Rooms are okay and clean enough for a short stay. Can't aggree with the review above though. Bathrooms are in bad condition, light above mirror was broken, hot water takes forever to warm up and floor in bathroom is kinda filthy. Staff is friendly to begin with but when I paid with a 50 dollar bill which was not completely new they refused to accept it and forced me to pay with credit card (3% extra charge!). I really don't get it, their own money is the worst crap but the tiniest tear in a USD note makes them frown....:-( And staff is REALLY indiscrete. I brought a friend to my room on the first day, the second day the receptoin staff as well as the girl sitting in front selling tours told another friend the whole story, like how long the person stayed, the colour of his motorbike and they also told where I would go next, when I will check out and whom I went on a tour with. Really indiscrete and unacceptable actually! Front rooms are fully illuminated and noisy as soon as the sun rises. The room I had had no window, so no problem with that. However towels didn't dry up because no air exchange! At night they close down at around 1 am, so if you come late you have to ring the bell in front and make the night guard open up.
