Description
It's difficult to pick the biggest selling point here: the giant plastic red tree in the superior rooms, the plastic hanging gardens in the standards, or perhaps the sprawling chandeliers in both. Then there is the cleaner peeling her sunburned forehead in the lift and dropping the long strips of dead skin onto the floor. These points aside, rooms are reasonable though not great value, and overall the place feels due for a refurbishment, particularly the bathrooms. Many of the nearby mini-hotels represent far better value. Only the deluxe rooms have streetfront.

Very convenient location and if you can get a room on one of the higher floors it's fairly quiet too. The hotel is aging (comments about refurbishments are still valid) but it's clean and practical - if not luxurious. Staff were friendly and fairly helpful, and certainly not pushy.

Didn't care much about the things as said in the description which are true. Finally a nice hot shower and some soft beds

AnAn Hotel
40 Bui Vien St, District 1
AnAn is a step above its surrounding competitors. Of course the price is higher, but so it should be. All rooms are tastefully decorated and equipped with modern furniture -- they include air-con, cable TV and a fridge with mini-bar, and spacious bathrooms are standard. The highlight of this hotel... more
Elios Hotel
231-235 Pham Ngu Lao St, District One, Saigon
The Elios was brand new as of early 2007. It could well be what the area was screaming for –- midrange options that aren't run down. This is the kind of place found in Nha Trang or Mui Ne, not the backpacker area of Ho Chi Minh City. The interior is decorated brightly with shades of cream, as... more
Vien Dong Hotel
275A Pham Ngu Lao St
The slightly higher prices than its competitor the Elios, opened around the same time, must be due to the Vien Dong's more impressive facilities. The rooms themselves are similar. The hotel is new as of March 2007, and this shows throughout the interior -- no peeling paint here. Rooms are of course... more
Que Huong Liberty Four
265 Pham Ngu Lao St, District 1
A three-star hotel is rare in this part of the world, so if being in the backpacker ghetto is important but quality and service are also desired, this is a good option. Very popular with tour groups, Liberty Four is by far the biggest hotel in the area. Services include a restaurant, WiFi, a... more
AnAn 2
216 De Tham St, District 1
AnAn 2 may have one of the best hotels in the area as its sister, but don't let the name assure you that inside you'll find something similar. In fact, AnAn 2 is what used to be the frumpy Southern Hotel, with a new name board slapped on the outside. It seems little has changed during the takeover.... more
