Description
A tour group and mid-range business traveller favourite, the New World Hotel's location is convenient for both Saigon's famous Ben Thanh market and the backpacker area around Pham Ngu Lao St -- it's also but a 10-minute stroll from the heart of Central Saigon. The hotel is massive -- some 552 rooms -- all of which come with in-room safe, mini-bar, tea and coffee, IDD telephones and broadband access (for an extra fee). That said, the rooms lack anything in the flair and polish department, and while they're comfortable and well maintained, they seem a tad overpriced compared to some of the other options in town. Also, the rooms on the lower floors catch a significant degree of traffic noise so try for a room on a higher floor if you're a light sleeper. Facilities include a host of restaurants, a gym and a large pool -- staff told us it is Saigon's largest, but The Legend's pool looked bigger to us. Definitely search for an online (discounted) rate.

Hotel Majestic
1 Dong Khoi St, District 1, Saigon
Dating back to 1925, the Majestic sits on what was once Rue Catinat (now Dong Khoi St) and Quai de Belgique Street (now Ton Duc Thang St) -- an area both historic and very well suited for holiday-makers and shoppers alike. Despite a series of renovations, and unlike the Rex, the Majestic remains a... more

Caravelle Hotel
19 Lam Son Square, District 1, Saigon
Voted one of the top 100 luxury hotels in the world by the Robb Report, the Caravelle Hotel, set on Lam Son Square opposite the Saigon Opera House, is one of the top properties in Saigon. The original Caravelle was home to the offices of AP, CBS, NBC, The New York Times and the Washington Post and... more

Sheraton Saigon Hotel & Towers
88 Dong Khoi St, District 1, Saigon
Named Best Business Hotel in Ho Chi Minh City 2006 by Business Traveller Magazine, the Sheraton Saigon Hotel and Towers is one of the most popular hotels among business travellers to Saigon. After the opening of its aptly named Grand Tower in April 2008, the total capacity now reaches nearly 500... more

Continental Hotel
132 Dong Khoi Street, District 1, Saigon
One of Saigon's historic hotels, the 1880-built Continental is probably best-known for its starring role in the Graham Greene classic The Quiet American. The Continental Shelf has long gone and though it survived the ravages of a SaigonTourist renovation in 1989, it retains barely a slither of its... more

Sofitel Plaza Saigon
17 Le Duan Blvd, District 1, Saigon
The Sofitel Plaza Saigon stands on the lovely tree-lined Le Duan Boulevard. As with the Caravelle and Renaissance, there's little in the way of a nod to colonial charm in this glass and brass edifice, but once you've put that aside, the Sofitel has an excellent standard of room, making it an... more

Park Hyatt Saigon
2 Lam Son Square, District 1, Saigon
Quite simply, the Park Hyatt is Saigon's best hotel. Opened in 2005, the Saigon Park Hyatt was a decade in the making and it was certainly worth the wait. Everything from the wooden plantation shutters to the silky ao dais and the subdued Vietnamese art simply ooze elegance and class. The gleaming... more

Rex Hotel
141 Nguyen Hue Blvd, District 1, Saigon
One of Saigon's best known hotels, the venerable Rex Hotel is a rambling affair bringing together the best and the not-so-best of Vietnamese hospitality and hotel facilities. Many US officers were billeted here during the American war, and their daily press conferences -- known as the Five o'Clock... more
