Description
The centrally-located Bong Sen looks like a pretty good deal from outside, with a pleasing street front look, but we found the rooms to be just average. The deluxe rooms are set street side, while the superior and standard rooms are off the street -- the latter are particularly dire -- and well overpriced. The superior and deluxe rooms are clean but plain -- don't expect any flourishes and you'll probably find the rooms to be acceptable fare, but in this price range you'll find better elsewhere. The hotel does a fair trade with tour groups, and facilities such as Jacuzzi served for gentlemen raised an eyebrow. Perhaps we got the staff on a bad day but we found them to be pretty frazzled when we passed through. On the upside the location is great -- just across the road from the Sheraton and walking distance from many of the highlights of this part of Saigon. All rates include breakfast but not taxes and surcharges.

The Grand Hotel
8 Dong Khoi St, District 1, Saigon
The Grand, along with the Continental and the Majestic, is the third of Saigon's classic colonial-style hotels. Originally dating back to 1930, the hotel was extensively renovated in 1995 and while this makeover left the property with a boring and decidedly ugly new wing, the original wing and its... more

Huong Sen Hotel
66-68-70 Dong Khoi St, District 1
Well-located on the corner of Dong Khoi and Mac Thi Buoi Sts, the five-floor Huong Sen Hotel has standard three-star rooms with the pick of the bunch being the street side deluxe rooms which while having good views over the surrounds also catch a lot of noise. The cheaper standard rooms are on the... more

Saigon Hotel
41-47 Dong Du St, District 1
The ageing Saigon Hotel dates back to 1968 and if you give the friendly receptionist a chance, she'll rattle off the entire convoluted history of the place. Very much an old-style hotel, the Saigon has a bit of a dose of character, but feels like it's had hardly a lick of maintenance since the US... more
