Description
Well-located on the corner of Dong Khoi and Mac Thi Buoi Sts, the five-floor Huong Sen Hotel has standard three-star rooms with the pick of the bunch being the street side deluxe rooms which while having good views over the surrounds also catch a lot of noise. The cheaper standard rooms are on the interior of the hotel with no views to speak of, but they're far quieter. The hotel has a large open air terrace bar in a very similar style to the Rex and on a half floor above that there's a massage and sauna centre along with a lap pool. The foyer is a pretty ornate affair, but overall the rooms do not live up to the ground floor livery. Popular with tour groups, the Huong Sen is overall not a bad deal for the aging mid-range option it is.

The Grand Hotel
8 Dong Khoi St, District 1, Saigon
The Grand, along with the Continental and the Majestic, is the third of Saigon's classic colonial-style hotels. Originally dating back to 1930, the hotel was extensively renovated in 1995 and while this makeover left the property with a boring and decidedly ugly new wing, the original wing and its... more
Continental Hotel
132 Dong Khoi Street, District 1, Saigon
One of Saigon's historic hotels, the 1880-built Continental is probably best-known for its starring role in the Graham Greene classic The Quiet American. The Continental Shelf has long gone and though it survived the ravages of a SaigonTourist renovation in 1989, it retains barely a slither of its... more
Rex Hotel
141 Nguyen Hue Blvd, District 1, Saigon
One of Saigon's best known hotels, the venerable Rex Hotel is a rambling affair bringing together the best and the not-so-best of Vietnamese hospitality and hotel facilities. Many US officers were billeted here during the American war, and their daily press conferences -- known as the Five o'Clock... more
New World Hotel Saigon
76 Le Lai St, District 1, Saigon
A tour group and mid-range business traveller favourite, the New World Hotel's location is convenient for both Saigon's famous Ben Thanh market and the backpacker area around Pham Ngu Lao St -- it's also but a 10-minute stroll from the heart of Central Saigon. The hotel is massive -- some 552 rooms... more
Bong Sen Hotel
117-123 Dong Khoi St, District 1
The centrally-located Bong Sen looks like a pretty good deal from outside, with a pleasing street front look, but we found the rooms to be just average. The deluxe rooms are set street side, while the superior and standard rooms are off the street -- the latter are particularly dire -- and well... more
Saigon Hotel
41-47 Dong Du St, District 1
The aging Saigon Hotel dates back to 1968 and if you give the friendly receptionist a chance, she'll rattle off the entire convoluted history of the place. Very much an old-style hotel, the Saigon has a bit of a dose of character, but feels like it's had hardly a lick of maintenance since the US... more
