Keng
Backpacker hideaway

What we say:
Situated next door to Hong Di, Keng is a good backpacker haven equalling Hong Di on all counts. The rooms, with their semi-firm beds and rather unusual ceiling decor, are spotless and set up in a longhouse style. All face onto the central garden area which is well-shaded and has a common area. As with Hong Di Bungalows, this is a good place for meeting other travellers. Popular with resident water-sport fans.

Now called Sunrise Resort - highly recommended
The new place is called Sunrise Resort or Binh Minh Resort. Its a small boutique resort with maybe about 20 rooms. We stayed here for 5 nights and couldn't fault the place. For US$30 we had a huge room newly furnished (with double and single bed) which overlooked the ocean and the pool. Price included ensuite, aircon, wifi, cable tv and a basic breakfast. The staff are excellent, very pleasant and attentive and constantly cleaning so that the rooms and grounds are absolutely spotless. The resort opens onto one of the nicest stretches of sandy beach with several options for hiring windsurfing/kitesurfing gear nearby and the pool is amazing with plenty of sunloungers to go around. We checked out a couple of other places before settling on Sunrise: Suoi Tien - more expensive at US$36 for a bungalow but the room and grounds are nowhere near as nice as Sunrise and Dong Ti next door .. adequate and much cheaper (US$15) but we felt that Sunrise was worth the extra money. The only slight negatives were the breakfast which is pretty small and basic and the showers are not the greatest but these are small things. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to others.

Keng is Closed
The whole place has been flattened. They're apparently rebuilding, but looks like it could take a while. Don't count on this one anytime soon. Lets hope the new Keng is still a budget winner.
