Mellow is run by amiable Englishman Paul and his wife Tien. For those who wish to escape the package tourists and aren't interested in luxury appendages, this is one of the cheapest places in Mui Ne -- an off-the-beach budget jewel. For kite surfers, this place is perfect -- it's a stones throw from the beach and all lessons/equipment hire can be arranged through the hotel. Indeed spend anytime in the sociable bar area and you're bound to meet some of Mui Ne's kiting community. For backpackers, Mellow is a great place to meet other travellers. Rooms are basic but new, brightly painted and clean. All rooms are currently fan, but expect air-con from April 2007.

Great Spot - 7th December, 2009
My girlfriend and I stayed here for about a week and really have nothing but good things to say about it. We paid $10 a night and got our own bathroom with hot water. Rooms were super clean and the sand that we tracked in every day was swept out regularly by the staff. The place is definitely full of long term kite surfers whom we found to be a pleasant bunch and we ended up finding out the right bars to go to each night through them. The food at Mellow was so-so but there are lots of good seafood options all along the main road. The restaurant did make a good spot to have an afternoon beer however. On a side note I should let you know that if you've never kite boarded before and you want to learn how you have to pay about $200 USD in order to take lessons. Most of the kiters at mellow also instruct and they will try to sell you lessons. Just don't expect that these lessons will be cheap like most things in vietnam.

The best place off the beach - 2nd December, 2007
I just spent 10 nights in Mui Ne. For about a week I stayed at Mellow, in one of the $6 rooms. The rooms are squeaky clean, made up well every day. The bathroom is shared (with hot water), but since there are only two $6 rooms, there was only one person to share with. You're not going to get beachfront for this price, but other than that the location is perfect. Across the road from the Jibes (kitesurfing club / bar /restaurant) and a bunch of decent eateries. Location is important in Mui Ne because many of the other cheap resorts are far at the ends of the beach where there's nothing going on and the beach has big concrete blocks. Paul and Tien were really great, making me feel at home and even inviting me to Tien's birthday party. Mellow is also a very popular spot with kitesurfers after a long day on the water. It's worth booking in advance for the cheap rooms, it's no secret they're a great deal.

Tien is Lovely - What's Eating Paul? - 2nd February, 2007
Stayed at Mellow for a few days. The rooms are new - smallish, but comfortable, with firm new beds. Bathrooms are a good size with hot water - a must, as Mui Ne gets cold at night due to the strong winds. My room was $10. When I checked out for my 0730 bus to DaLat, Paul left a weird note for me: ''It would have been nice if you had let us know you were leaving at 6 AM!'' 1) I told them the previous morning that I was leaving the next day. 2) I came back that evening after dinner to settle my bill to avoid a morning rush, but they were already closed for business, and 3) I checked out at 7 AM, not 6, and they still hadn't opened for business. Not sure why I was getting chewed out in letter-form. Anyway, I had spoken with Paul before ''the letter'' and he does seem to be a pretty decent fellow, and as I stated in the title, his wife is a gem. If Hiep Hoa, across the street, is full or out your budget, give Mellow a stay.
