Binh Minh Hotel
A solid mid-range option

What we say:
The Binh Minh, across from Phan Thiet's beach, is a solid mid-range option -- especially if you cringe at the prices at the Novotel, but don't want to slum it in a guest house. This two-star outfit has rooms in a pair of buildings separated by a courtyard. The seaview rooms are the most expensive, but the ones at the rear of the back building have very pretty views of the adjacent, pond, covered with lush green vegetation. Cheaper rooms are available elsewhere, but the offerings here are clean and crisp, with good furnishings and amenities, making them the top choice in town if comfort is the key to your happiness. The Binh Minh is another 'tour dependent' operation, but unlike the Doi Duong next door, it has something to offer the independent traveller as well. Avoid the in-house restaurant and head across the street to the beach-front outfits for food and drinks. The Binh Minh also has free WiFi and foreign exchange services.

The location is a great compromise. It's not on the beach, but it's directly across the street from the beach, and there's a nice lake behind the property. The rooms are a good size. Everything was about what you expect, minus the service. When it came to check out, the credit card machine suddenly stopped working, claimed the unfriendly man at the front. He insisted we had to pay him cash. It all felt a bit suspicious. The other big complaint is the noise. The entire building is concrete and tile, inside and out. Sounds careen off the surfaces of every room. I personally prefer to stay off the beach area, because I think the staff are less friendly and you pay more than double for the locations. If you're looking for a cheap, clean, quiet room, and don't mind a stiffer bed, stay at the Phu Gia for less than half the price. You can stroll down to the beach in 10 minutes, or eat some great Phan Thiet style banh xeo at the street behind it.
