Cong Doan Hotel
Best of the beach options

What we say:
This is the star among your 'on-the-beach' options, which is to say, it's a good bit better than the only other place on the beach, which isn't saying much. It's a large, aging, two-star place that is starting to suffer a bit from poor upkeep. The rooms feature hard, heavy furniture -- the kind that Southeast Asians associate with luxury (however odd that might seem to everyone else) but the rooms are nonetheless pleasant, adequate, and only slightly more expensive than what you'd be charged inland. There's also a tennis court on premises (that's how they earn the second star, we imagine). It's in ideal proximity to both the beach and the seafood restaurants to the north.

Good location
We stayed for one night and really enjoyed it, although we paid 250,000 for a double room with aircon, private hot bathroom and balcony. Just make sure you check the room before you agree to stay, there was a massive difference between the first room we saw (with a tiny balcony where the doors wouldn't shut) and the second which we agreed on. The wifi didn't work on the rooms, just in the hallways. It's in a great location though near the beach and quiet at night. Recommended.

A pleasurable stay
After spending a week at Cong Doan, I was a bit surprised by the less than stellar Travelfish summary. Our very large 5th floor room with cable TV and a nice balcony with breathtaking views of the sea was a steal at 160,000 dong per night, at least when compared to cramped, dirty guesthouses we've seen elsewhere for the same price. It's a great place to relax for a day or two en route between Da Nang and Na Trang. Fresh seafood and authentic Vietnamese culture - I'll be back.
