Fun World is a massive indoor (and un-air-conditioned) playground in Sukawati. It’s a bit out of the way for the average tourist, but if you’re staying in Ubud or Sanur you might want to consider it if you’ve had enough of trawling the sites with your kids and kind of just want a day off that doesn’t involve activities like learning to surf on Bali’s beaches or lazing around crowded hotel pools.
On offer are a wide range of activities, from a sedate area with play equipment for kids aged 18 months to about five, to a huge three-storey activity structure with slides, swings and ball-shooters (for want of a more technical term). Older kids can scour the blow-up climbing wall, somersault on the trampoline with the assistance of a harness or just hang out playing air hockey.
The canteen is very local, offering a few instant noodle-style dishes and packaged snacks and drinks, so you might want to take your own along if you’re particular.
Here’s a tip: Make sure you call the evening before you want to go to ensure they do not have a big booking the morning that will coincide with your visit. They often accept groups of 200-plus kids and believe me, you do NOT want to be there on those days! Though, if your kids are older, you probably won’t mind too much and they may get to make some Indonesian friends.
If you get there for the 09:30 opening, be warned that they are sometimes still cleaning from the evening before.
